Military Crimes

Mississippi Civilian and JAG Defense Lawyer Representing Clients Charged With Military Crimes

Military personnel are subject to a different set of laws when they are charged with crimes. Military crimes are tried in a different court system, and the defendant must be represented by a judge advocate general (JAG) lawyer. Although there are numerous criminal defense attorneys in Mississippi and Alabama, there are only a select few who are also JAG attorneys.

Kevin D. Camp of The Camp Law Firm, PLLC is one of them. With more than a decade of experience as a criminal defense lawyer, he and our legal team are equipped to provide aggressive, professional criminal defense for military personnel and civilians charged with violations of military law or offenses committed on military bases. Aggressive, Knowledgeable Defense

Attorney Camp handles all types of criminal charges for military personnel and civilians in all Mississippi and Alabama military courts including:

  • DUI
  • Controlled substance and drug offenses
  • Theft, forgery, embezzlement, housebreaking, burglary or robbery
  • Stalking or assault
  • Rape
  • Murder

Our firm also handles court martials and crimes specific to the military, whether charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) or the Alabama or Mississippi Codes of Military Justice, such as:

  • Assault, insubordinate conduct or willfully disobeying a superior officer
  • Disobeying a lawful order
  • Loss, damage, destruction, or wrongful disposition of U.S. military property
  • Larceny and wrongful appropriation
  • Absence without leave or desertion
  • Perjury
  • Misconduct as a prisoner

The Mississippi and Alabama Codes of Military Justice the UCMJ have different trial and discovery procedures than those used in civilian courts. Our experience in these courts helps us prepare for trial and provide effective criminal defense of military officers and others charged in military venues.

Unlike in the civilian criminal justice system where probation might be an option, in a military court longer sentences are often imposed with short probation periods. In a military venue, a plea negotiation is often advisable since almost all military convictions carry prison time.

We are serious, committed advocates willing to work hard to develop a beneficial compromise. Pleas must also prove to be provident, or the accused must know the facts of the case and they must be consistent with the evidence. If no appropriate plea bargain can be negotiated, we are experienced at representing clients before military tribunals.
